Beautiful Backyard Habitats
Saturday, September 13
10:00 am – 12:00 pm
$10/members, $15/non-members
Join the 90,000 people in the United States who have certified their yards and homes as backyard habitats for wildlife. Sharon McCray, whose yard is certified by the National Wildlife Federation, will show the four basic elements required by wildlife for survival and how to provide them in basic landscaping. You’ll learn about gardening with natives, build a toad house and learn about other wildlife friendly shelters, discover ways of reducing water use while providing ample sources for animals, and so much more! We will even provide the paper work for you to begin certifying your own backyard habitat. Let’s make the world a greener and more wildlife friendly place.

Team Building and Community Involvement Opportunities
Working together to make a difference in the community is a great way to build team spirit and demonstrate the values of your organization. We will work with your group to find the right project (s) for your group. Year-round, outdoor activities provide fresh air and exercise as well as team camaraderie!

Free Ice Cream - Rose Deadheading
Want to do something different during summer to help your community and get a free ice cream as a reward? The Heritage Rose Garden needs volunteers to snip all the dead roses in order to promote more bloom.   We’re hoping you will help us on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm, with a sweet payoff at the end. No experience necessary. Volunteer experts will show you how.  Bring your own clippers, or borrow one from the staff.  It will be an enjoyable and rewarding way to spend a summer evening.

The San Jose Heritage Rose Garden is located on Taylor Street, at Spring Street, just east of Coleman Avenue.  For more information, and to sign up, contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Lucy Perez, at 408-298-7657.
