Trail Construction

South
Construction is getting underway to extend the Guadalupe River Trail further south.  The 0.4 mile trail extension will lead trail users from Woz Way at the Children’s Discovery Museum parking lot to Virginia Street.  The linkage to light rail via the Virginia Street Station will be greatly improved, and distance to the Highway 87 Bikeway will be further reduced.

North
The paving of Guadalupe River Trail from Hwy 880 north to Gold St. in Alviso will start later this year. Unfortunately, that section of the trail will be closed during the construction period, but the resulting paved path should be worth the wait. The project start date hasn’t been determined - we will pass along the information once it’s announced.

Education

The Complete Guide to Year Round Food Gardening!
Saturday, May 22nd
10:30 to 12:30pm
$10/members, $15/non-members
Learn how to get the most out of your year-round food garden. Come join Friends of Guadalupe and meet local author Pam Peirce to learn why her book, Golden Gate Gardening has been the gold standard in gardening books for Northern California. Much has changed in the gardening world since her popular last edition was published a decade ago and the new updated version includes everything from pest control to seed companies. Pam Peirce will share information on crop varieties that are delicious, productive, and pest resistant, recent developments in planning a garden to attract beneficial creatures, and ways to use your garden’s microclimate, and the mini-microclimates within it to best advantage. This new edition includes a specific planting calendar for Santa Clara County gardeners, and is packed with solid information and Pam’s years of experience, making this a must-have for anyone with a bit of soil, some seeds and a dream of green.

“For vegetable gardening in the Bay Area, Golden Gate Gardening is indispensable---- if you buy one gardening book, this is the one”
Michael Pollan, author of In Defense of Food and the Omnivore’s Dilemma

This program takes place at the Guadalupe Visitor & Education Center, 438 Coleman Ave, SJ. Pre Registration is required, space is limited. For more information on the author, to register visit www.grpg.org or call 408 298-7657.
