Newsletter: May 2012

Thanks to all our sponsors who made Spring in Guadalupe Gardens and the Fun Run a great success – Adobe Systems, Inc., Best Electrical, Blach Construction, Club Rodeo, the City of San Jose, Greenwaste, Kaiser, NBC Bay Area, San Jose Water Company, and Silicon Valley Community Newspapers. We could not do this event without all of the great vendors who come out, and all the dedicated volunteers who donate their time.

Bike to Work Day & Trail Update

Look for our Bike to Work Day Energizer Station on Thursday, May 10th. We’ll be set up on the trail next to the Visitor Center.

The trail north of Hwy 880 will be closed early next month so that the paving project can begin. Worst-case scenario has the Hwy 880 to Gold St. section closed for one year, but we hear that the contractor is eager to get the job done sooner.

National River Clean Up – May 19th

On Saturday, May 19th from 9 AM to noon, we'll be cleaning our adopted section between Coleman and Hwy 880 (Site 20). If you'd like to join us, just click here to sign up. To see a list of other sites, click here!

Window on the River Park

Join us on June 14th as Adobe Systems, Inc. hosts our 11th annual Window on the River Park fundraiser. Information regarding sponsorships and individual tickets can be found here. Proceeds fund ongoing education and stewardship efforts in the park.

Meet Volunteer Sandi Del Balso

After working as a project manager in engineering for United Airlines, Sandi took time off to raise her two children. She decided to pursue a degree in environmental studies at SJSU in anticipation of returning to work, and chose GRPC for her internship. Sandi developed curriculum for our homeschool program and assisted with field trips, where she found working with children really rewarding. Thanks Sandi, and congratulations on your degree!
