Guadalupe River Park Conservancy -- Weekly Message from the ED

Greetings - I hope 2009 is treating you well. My New Year's resolution is to keep you better informed of organizational developments, so please look for a weekly message.

Committee Updates
Our Master Plan Committee met last week. Airport Government Relations Manager Jim Webb attended to report on the 12/19/08 visit with the FAA and next steps in the process for approving our proposed update to the Guadalupe Gardens Master Plan. Time is of the essence as Kathy Muller and other members of the downtown Rotary Club are working on having a "Boundless Playground" selected as the club's centennial project, and the preferred site is adjacent to our Visitor Center. Arvind Kumar also attended and requested that we set aside land for a native plants garden. We let him know that we included five acres of native grassland restoration in a recent grant proposal and brainstormed opportunities to reintroduce native plants. The Master Plan Committee meets the second Thursday of the month at 5:30 pm at 438 Coleman Ave.
Good News
According to the Downtown Association's January newsletter, Groundwerx (the folks that keep downtown clean) received a permit from the Santa Clara Valley Water District to haul trash from the river. "Besides deploying four cleaners and two ambassadors on two designated cleanup days in November and December, the Groundwerx crews routinely monitor the river walk from St. John St. to Woz Way..."

SJSU Professor Peter Haas expressed interest in working with us again. Last spring, his master's students developed, administered, and analyzed the results of an email survey sent to 2,500 people in our database.

Staff Update

Lucy returned last week after spending three weeks in her native Puerto Rico. And we just had a visit from Phil's wife Ivona and seven-week-old daughter Lexy.
