Visitor Center Improvement

Thanks to a grant from the eBay Foundation and elbow grease from David More, Don Snyder and friends, we have new interpretive panels in our lobby. The custom-designed panels feature the river habitat, watershed, and various lifecycles.



River Clean Up on April 21st

Join an energetic group led by Jeremy Dalton to get the river ready for Spring in Guadalupe Gardens. We’ll meet at the Visitor Center at 9am on Saturday, the 21st, and work until noon. Please register so that we have enough supplies on hand.

Nature Photography 101

Nature is photogenic any time of the year, but especially during spring! The grasses have sprouted; the river is running strong; the animals have returned to feed on abundant vegetation, and wildflowers glow in the soft, spring sunlight. Learn how to capture nature as it dons the colors and emotions of spring. Local naturalist and professional nature photographer Greg Kerekes will present the basics of nature photography, and then lead participants on a hands-on, outdoor shoot in the park. Bring your camera!



Container Gardening: Ornamentals and Vegetables

Learn how to transform any space—an apartment balcony, patio, driveway, or even a bathroom counter—into a garden at this container gardening workshop! Santa Clara County Master Gardener Lise Varner will cover the best potting and fertilizing materials for container gardening, how to plan out a container garden for your particular space, watering procedures, harvesting techniques, and which plant varieties grow best in containers.

Learn how you can adopt naturally sustainable gardening practices that will make your yard healthier for your family and for the San Francisco Bay environment. This hands-on class will focus on ornamental gardens and lawns, with easy to implement ideas that are being demonstrated in the newly installed plots in the Courtyard Garden. We will explore the gardens with a landscape designer, and develop ideas for transitioning your home landscape to be more sustainable.
