Are you the leader of a neighborhood group? Or are you part of a homeschool network? Sign up your group for one of our fun-filled, environmental science programs (below) that take place in the Guadalupe River Park & Gardens! Our knowledgeable and enthusiastic Guadalupe Guides will make your students’ experience educational and exciting. We make it easy by supplying all the materials, instruction, set-up and clean-up. Animals In and Out
Want to meet some animals up close? Come visit Guadalupe River Park Conservancy and the animals of our critter corner to find out why they slither, hop, and swim. Then, roam the wild side of the park and learn how to identify birds and other outdoor critters. Hunt for animal homes, figure out what animals eat, and develop an understanding of why all animals are important.
Fishy Mysteries
Come and learn about the secret lives of Salmon and Steelhead Trout! Explore these local fishes’ lifecycle and the aquatic requirements they need to successfully spawn. Fish have to eat too! Find out why fish think macroinvertebrates are delicious and how we can use these aquatic insects to determine the health of our watershed. Also, learn how geology affects fish migration and the shape of the Guadalupe River.
Junior Geocachers
North, south, east, and west! Do you know where you are now? Join the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy for an exciting class about geography, navigation, and geocaching! Travel back in time to learn about ancient navigation and then fast forward to the modern world of Global Positioning Systems. Work in teams to use handheld GPS units (provided) to determine your latitude and longitude in the park, find educational treasure boxes, and solve fun geography puzzles! Flower Power
Have you ever stopped to smell the roses? The Heritage Rose Garden features thousands of varieties of roses that bloom beautifully in the spring. Become a botanist, dissect a rose to find out how a flower works, and enter the world of bugdom to learn about pollinators and the life cycles of garden insects. Then, explore the Heritage Rose Garden with magnifying glasses to see pollinators up close and personal! |
