The bobcat is a North American mammal of the cat family Felidae. The bobcat is an adaptable predator that inhabits wooded areas, as well as semidesert, urban edge, forest edges, and swampland environments. The bobcat has gray to brown coat, whiskered face, and black-tufted ears. Though the bobcat prefers rabbits and hares, it will hunt anything from insects, chickens, and small rodents to deer.
Fun Fact According to Defenders of Wildlife, a conservation group based in Washington D.C., there are about 750,000 to 1,020,000 bobcats as of 2009. The International Species Information Service lists 245 captive bobcats worldwide, with 191 being in U.S. zoos.
