Glaucous Gull

Larus hyperboreus

The Glaucous Gull is a large gull very pale in all plumages, with no black on either of the wings or the tail. The term glaucous describes its colouration. Adults are pale grey above, with a thick yellow bill. These are omnivores that will eat fish, insects, molluscs, starfish, offal, scraps, eggs, small birds, small mammals and carrion as well as seeds, berries and grains.

Fun Fact
The Glaucous Gull is known to invade seabird nesting colonies to prey on eggs and chicks. The gull will fly over a foraging arctic fox or a person disturbing the nesting colony, and swoop down on prey abandoned during the disturbance.
