This cute, small songbird, about 6 inches in length, charms listeners with sweet yet complex melodies that it has learned from its father. Its body is generally brown with many grey speckles and white streaks. Listen for the Song Sparrow near willow thickets and amongst the shrubs and brush in chaparral landscapes.
Fun Fact Most Song Sparrows build nests on the ground, where they are close to their prey——cutworms, grasshoppers, and ants.
