If you've hiked in Northern California on a rainy day, chances are you've smelled the distinctive fragrance of the California Bay Laurel. This tree, native to California, grows in oak woodlands, redwood forests, and along riparian zones.
Fun Fact The word "laureate" comes from the bay laurel tree. Ancient Greeks honored victorious olympians and talented poets with wreaths made from Grecian laurel leaves.
