The California Black Walnut is a native tree found in oak woodlands and riparian zones. In the late summer and early fall, you can spot large green walnuts growing on the slender branches of the tree.
Fun Fact Almost all commercially grown walnut trees have California Black Walnut rootstocks. The California Black Walnut produces small nuts that are difficult to shell, but its rootstock is more resistant to drought, insects, and diseases than commercial varieties.
