NEWSLETTER: June 2019

In this issue:

Welcoming Jason

Jason Su joined the Conservancy staff as our new Executive Director on June 3rd. Jason previously served for five years as the Street Life Manager at the San Jose Downtown Association, fostering collaborations with businesses, nonprofits, foundations, and the public sector. He has also held positions at the San Francisco Department of Public Works, SPUR, and the Alzheimer's Association of Orange County. Jason succeeds Leslee Hamilton who has served in this role with heart and soul since 2008. Please join us in sharing our hearfelt thanks to Leslee and welcome to Jason.

Impact Day Donation

Deloitte presented us with this big check on June 7th as part of their 20th Impact Day and teamed up with City of San Jose PRNS on beautification projects in three regions of the park, including some much-needed weeding in the Courtyard Garden. We're grateful for Deloitte's generous support and shared vision for an iconic, active, and well-maintained central park for our community.

A Tribute to the Carousel

Window on the River Park, our 18th annual fundraising party, was held on May 30th and generously hosted and underwritten by Adobe. This year's festivities centered around our planned relocation and reactivation of the Children's Carousel at Arena Green.

We were joined by Mayor Sam Liccardo, Councilmembers Raul Peralez and Johnny Khamis, and Valley Water Board Chair Linda LeZotte.

We greatly appreciate the individuals, corporations, and foundations who provide operating support for our education, advocacy, and stewardship efforts.

Volunteer Corner

Samsung joined us to beautify the park for their annual Earth Day volunteering event. 77 volunteers worked on multiple projects including a trail cleanup, weeding within our various gardens, mulching around the Heritage Rose Garden picnic area, and rehabilitating some of our wheelbarrows! We got a lot of work done in a short amount of time and greatly appreciate the support from our corporate partners.

A hearty thanks to all the volunteer groups that toiled to make GRPG a more beautiful place this past April:

Legacy Giving

Why Should You Include a Charitable Gift in Your Will (Or Living Trust)?

  1. It's simple to do. It can be as easy as including language stating, "I give $20,000 to Guadalupe River Park Conservancy."
  1. You can change your mind. We won't receive the gift until after your death. During your lifetime, you can amend anything you choose, i.e., beneficiaries, amounts, etc.
  1. Tax-wise, it could be beneficial. Gifts to qualified charitable organizations reduce the value of your estate for estate tax purposes.
  1. It's an easy way to support Guadalupe River Park Conservancy, and we'd be grateful for your gift. Bequests of every size build our future financial strength.
